Installation Guide: 1986-1991 Corvette Vehicle Anti-Theft System (VATS) Bypass Switch
Follow these simple steps to install the VATS Bypass Switch in your 1986 to 1991 Corvette and gain full control over your vehicle’s security system.
- Preparation:
- Disconnect the negative battery cable before beginning the installation.
- Ensure you have the correct VATS bypass switch, as indicated by the key code on the packaging. This code should match the key code associated with your Corvette’s ignition key.
- Locate the VATS Module:
- Remove the lower driver’s side dash panel by unscrewing the retaining screws.
- Find the VATS module underneath the dash, typically mounted on the steering column support. It is a small black box with a single harness connection.
- Install the Bypass Switch:
- Disconnect the harness from the original VATS module.
- Connect the bypass switch’s male connector into the vehicle harness and the female connector into the original VATS module. Ensure the connectors are firmly seated and secure.
- Secure the Bypass Switch:
- Use the included zip ties to attach the bypass switch to the steering column support or another secure location under the dashboard. Make sure the switch is easily accessible for your convenience.
- Finalize Installation:
- Reinstall the lower driver’s side dash panel and secure it with the retaining screws.
