An Interior Light Delay Timer, also known as a courtesy light delay or a dome light delay timer, is a device that controls the amount of time the interior lights of a vehicle remain on after the doors are closed. In the context of a 1978 to 1982 Chevrolet Corvette, this feature was designed to provide additional convenience and safety for occupants exiting the vehicle in dark conditions.

When you open the door of the Corvette, the interior lights turn on to illuminate the cabin. Once the door is closed, instead of the lights immediately turning off, the Interior Light Delay Timer keeps the lights on for a pre-set period (usually around 15-60 seconds, depending on the model). After the delay period has passed, the timer will automatically shut off the interior lights.

This feature was not exclusive to Corvettes and could be found in many other vehicles during this period, as well as in modern cars, where the technology has evolved and become more sophisticated.
